The Maxon Compandor combines a compressor and an expander in a single pedal, allowing dynamic control beyond simple level smoothing. Its compression section reduces the dynamic range of the input signal, making quiet notes louder and loud notes softer, while the expander section can increase the dynamic range by attenuating signals below a set threshold, effectively reducing noise and hum when not playing. The pedal features controls for adjusting the compression ratio and threshold, as well as an expander threshold, letting the user tailor how aggressively each section responds. A blend or mix control may be present to balance the compressed and uncompressed signals, preserving the original attack transient while adding sustain. The unit operates with standard 9V power and includes a bypass switch to route the dry signal directly to the output when engaged.
