The Line 6 FM4 Filter Modeler recreates a range of classic and modern filter effects, from auto-wah and envelope followers to synth-like sweeps, using its four main filter model groups. Each of the four footswitches selects a bank of models, and the adjacent Model knob scrolls through the specific filter types within that bank. The Filter knob adjusts the center frequency or sweep range, while the Depth control sets how strongly the envelope or LFO modulates that frequency. Speed governs the rate of any modulation-based filter, and the Drive control adds overdrive before the filter, making the sweep more aggressive and pronounced. The pedal includes a bypass footswitch for true bypass operation, and its stereo inputs and outputs allow the filter to process two separate signals or run in a stereo effects loop. An expression pedal input can be assigned to control the Filter or Depth parameters in real time, letting the user sweep the filter manually instead of relying on the internal envelope or LFO.
