Description
The DeArmond 1900 Wah is a vintage wah pedal that uses an optical circuit rather than the more common inductive inductor-based design found in many wah pedals. Its treadle controls a sweep of a band-pass filter, which emphasizes a narrow range of frequencies and moves that emphasis up and down as the pedal is rocked. This creates the characteristic vowel-like "wah" effect, with the toe-down position producing a brighter, higher-frequency emphasis and the heel-down position yielding a darker, lower-frequency tone. The pedal has a single input and output jack for mono operation, and it is powered by a standard 9-volt battery, which is accessed by removing the bottom plate. The optical mechanism uses a light-dependent resistor and a lamp, which can affect the response and character of the sweep compared to inductor-based wahs.
